SportClips: haircuts and football

Many new businesses are flocking to Falcon, and SportClips is one of them, opening its doors Nov. 15 next to Prairie View Family Care in the Safeway shopping complex.SportsClips Haircuts is a franchise and Falcon owner Riley McMurdo said he and his family have four other stores in Colorado. McMurdo, who is based out of Denver, said they chose Falcon for a fifth site because his brother-in-law recommended the area. ìMy brother-in-law is in construction and was working out here,î McMurdo said. ìHe said Falcon was blowing up. We checked it out and liked what we saw.îSportsClips targets men, touting a heavy sports themed-atmosphere.ìWe have TVs with games on it; four 46-inch flat screens; and a 65-inch screen in the lobby,î McMurdo said. Although the franchise caters to men, the store is family friendly and welcomes women and children, too.McMurdo said being involved in the community is an important part of their business plan. ìWe had free haircuts for veterans on Veterans Day; we do the Help a Hero Campaign, which gives a $3 discount to all military,î he said. ìWe also try to work with local school sports teams. We are working with the athletic department at Falcon High school to do a fundraising event; a $5 donation to Falcon high School athletics will get you a free haircut.îMcMurdo said he plans to employ about seven or eight stylists. The franchise website shows those stylists are pretty much all female.
