Sincere thank you to the voters of Upper Black Squirrel Creek GWMD

The Upper Black Squirrel Creek Ground Water Management District board of directors would like to thank all the constituents who came out and mailed in their votes for the Feb. 2, 2010 election. We had a great turnout with 400 casting their votes on the two ballot issues. The ballot issues were (A) which asked the voters to approve a 0.04 percent mill levy increase, and (B) which asked the voters for approval to De-Tabor aka De-Bruce. The votes were very close on both issues. Ballot issue A was approved and ballot issue B was not approved, losing by two votes. The board is very pleased that the voters had faith in the district by approving ballot issue A ñ the mill levy increase which will bring much needed revenue into the district to preserve, protect and conserve our finite resources. The board understands that any increase of taxes is a difficult decision. The board appreciates that the voters expressed their approval of the job that the board is doing on their behalf and will continue to work hard to put these additional funds to good use for all of our constituents.Ballot issue B, which was not approved, would have let the district set up fee structures for certain types of applications which have historically cost the district large amounts of money for engineering, hydrology and legal fees to review and process. It would have also allowed us to receive grant money from various sources to do proactive projects and studies in the basin. Tabor limits our ability to take in additional monies from these types of fees or grants as it is considered revenue. That being said, we view the election results as the voters have spoken and have exercised their democracy clearly. The district will continue to work hard to maintain and try to further gain the trust of the constituents of the Upper Black Squirrel Creek Ground Water Management District, and in doing so will hopefully show the need for De-Taboring in the future. The board of directors of the Upper Black Squirrel Creek Ground Water Management District encourages all the constituents of the district to get involved and learn as much as you can about the finite resources we rely on in this district. We encourage you to attend the monthly board meeting, which is held the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. We welcome your help to protect this valuable resource. Feel free to call our office at 719-347-0704 if you ever have any questions or concerns. The board of directors is always open to speaking to the constituents of the district and hearing what they have to say.Once again we would like to thank all that voted in the February election. With sincere gratitude,The board of directors of the Upper Black Squirrel Creek Ground Water Management DistrictLarry Rodgers, District 1Dave Doran, District 2Mitchell Baldwin, District 3Rick Jenkins, District 4Donald Booker, District 5
