Signature collection under way for Woodmen Hills recall

Proponents of a recall to remove Jan Pizzi as Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District board president are collecting the signatures necessary to trigger an election.Recall organizer Marti Wallner said by May 20 they gathered nearly half of the 300 signatures needed. Her goal is to complete the signature retrieval by the end of May.Wallner said the WHMD town hall meeting May 20 was a venue for people to learn more about the happenings in the district. She said community members asked good questions and wanted more transparency from the board about the bond negotiations currently under way.”We (the recall committee) stayed quite. People on the fence went one way or another,” Wallner said.A recall is necessary, she said. Under Pizzi’s leadership, the board is relying too heavily on district manager Larry Bishop, Pizzi added. The board should be leading the district and giving direction to the paid employees. Instead, she said, “I feel the board is Larry’s mouthpiece.”Jennifer Zucker said she thinks many things could be improved in the community, but she is against the recall. She and her family have lived in Woodmen Hills for eight years. “I fear with the constant recalls we won’t get our bond issue resolved,” she said.Zucker said board members are unable to do their jobs if they are constantly threatened by recall. “I feel the value of our homes is being jeopardized.”She has reviewed the recall materials, researched the information and said she thinks important facts are being left out and others misconstrued. “I think it’s personal,” Zucker said. “And I don’t agree with their tactics.”
