Shriners looking for space for recycling bins

The Al Kaly Shriners Southern Colorado Colorado Springs chapter is hoping to make it easier for Falcon and area residents to recycle white paper and newspapers. The Shriners would like to bring their recycling bins to Falcon. All they need is a willing business owner who has an outdoor area to house the bin.Shriner Fred Kiger said he approached Safeway, but they didn’t want to participate. He is hoping Wal-Mart will step up to the plate. Kiger said the Shriners recycling bin is in the parking area of Wal-Mart on Platte Avenue in Colorado Springs, and, according to the Shriners Web site, Wal-Mart is one of their best locations, bringing in six tons of paper per month. “Wal-Mart is my prime objective,” Kiger said. However, he is open to hearing from other business owners who have the space to accommodate one or two three or five-liter containers. There is no cost to the business, and the Shriners manage the recycling contents. The recycled paper products also go toward a great cause: screening clinics for children who need to be admitted to one of the many hospitals the Shriners operate throughout the country. Their pediatric hospitals specialize in a variety of health-related issues, from scoliosis to burns, and there is no charge for treatment. Patients must be younger than 18 years and treatable. If a business owner in Falcon is interested in maintaining a paper recycling bin on his or her property, call Fred Kiger at 719-494-0362.
