Shredding to help end hunger

ElderWatch Colorado and the Black Forest AARP Chapter No. 1100 partnered with Shred-It Colorado to address identity theft and collect food for Black Forest Cares, a local food bank. Volunteers helped collect and shred 8,500 pounds of paper to be recycled. They also collected 593 pounds of nonperishable food and $238 for Black Forest Cares.Shred-It Colorado donated a shredding truck and operator; Wal-Mart and King Soopers donated snacks and water; and Black Forest Fire and Rescue provided their facilities.The Black Forest AARP Chapter’s motto is “To Serve Not to Be Served.” Anyone interested in participating in community service or becoming a chapter member should call Chuck at 719-749-9227. All are welcome with no age restrictions.
