Scholarship signings at Falcon High

On Feb. 3 at Falcon High School, Josh Gustad, 17-year-old son of Jason and Karen Gustad and brother of Sean, age 14, signed a letter of intent to play football at Culver-Stockton College in Missouri. He received an athletic scholarship and an academic scholarship – he plans to study criminal justice.Josh has been playing football for about 13 years, he said. Falcon football Coach Jason Catron said, “Josh was a tremendous athlete that played four years for FHS and did an outstanding job. He was a three-year starter at wide receiver – started as a sophomore and was also a two-year first team all-conference selection his junior and senior year. During the 2008 season, he was named the Falcon team offensive MVP. Coach Catron also said he is proud of Josh’s accomplishments on and off the field. “He had a great attitude and has worked hard every day in practice,” he said.On the same day, Miranda Lyndes signed an athletic and scholastic scholarship letter of intent to attend Peru State College in Nebraska. She will play softball as a pitcher/infielder on her athletic scholarship and her scholastic scholarship will be used to study elementary education and athletic training. Miranda is 18 and the daughter of Eva and Mike Lyndes and sister to one brother, Mayson. Miranda was a pitcher all four years at Falcon. During her senior year in school she was awarded the following honors: Metro All League, Senior Metro All Star game, 2009 Gazette All Area First Team, 2009 Gazette Senior All State game, and 4A Allstate honorable mention. Miranda compiled a batting average of .429 with a pitching record of 4-6 and an earned run average of 3.29 as a senior.
