Falcon Fire Protection District (FFPD)

Safety Tip

In El Paso County (and most areas of the country), 9-1-1 is the number to call in an emergency. It might seem quicker to directly call the fire station, but doing so instead of calling 911 actually delays an emergency response.

  • When fire crews are out of the station and cannot answer the phone, the person calling will have to hang up and dial 911 anyway.
  • The firefighter or administrative person answering the phone must write down all of the necessary information before notifying dispatch. By calling 911, the call takers and dispatchers can get emergency responders on their way to the call while gathering additional information from the caller.
  • Dispatch center personnel can also provide pre-arrival instructions for first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, etc., so the caller can provide assistance prior to the arrival of first responders.
  • County dispatchers have technology to trace dropped or disconnected calls that firefighters do not. This can be critical in situations such as the case of a person living alone who suffers a medical emergency but becomes unconscious or accidentally disconnects before providing an address.
Use 911 for emergencies only. Also: Do not use Facebook or Twitter to report emergencies to the Falcon Fire Protection District, as the district does not monitor its social media accounts 24/7.
