Need a bit of motivation to get in your early morning run? Join the new Falcon Flatlanders Running Club. You know what they say: Misery loves company.Bill Lanphear and John Thompson of Falcon decided to start a running club because they often struggled with the idea of an early a.m. run. “We don’t care how fast or how far you run; we just want someone to hold us accountable for showing up,” Thompson said in a news release. “If you don’t run, come out and walk or do whatever blows your hair back. We won’t necessarily run together or set a distance, but at least we’ll all start together.”It’s free and the club will track the number of runs for each individual who shows up and signs in. The runs will be posted (with a star next to the person) on their Web site: www.flatlanders.org.The runners congregate at the Rock Island trail head near Walgreen’s (near the trees and the pond) and run the trail. They meet in the morning at 5:15 a.m. Mondays and Fridays, and in the evening on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Although they recommend a twice-weekly regimen of running or walking to keep in shape, anyone who wants to join the Flatlanders can come whenever, and walkers are welcome. It’s a great way to meet people, too, Thompson said. And the future could include other activities, even a sponsored race. For now, it’s all about getting out there. “We really don’t care if you run, walk, crawl, bike, or show up; sign in and leave,” he said. “If you sign in, you got up and showed effort, you’ll get a STAR. The STAR is what it’s all about.”Their first community run was May 11. Call John Thompson at 719-491-5270 for more information.
