El Paso County Commissioner Tom Huffman is a new sheriff’s deputy?This was actually on the county list of happenings … WHAT?”This will be the greatest honor that I have received for my duties as commissioner, and certainly one of the greatest honors I have received in my life.”These are the words of El Paso County Commissioner Tom Huffman, who, at the Dec. 9, 2004 board of county commissioners’ meeting, was presented with a prestigious honor from Sheriff Terry Maketa.Huffman and Commissioner Chuck Brown were made honorary deputies for the Sheriff’s Department.Commissioner Huffman was sworn in by Sheriff Maketa, and was then presented with a plaque and badge. According to Sheriff Maketa, this is a “special recognition granted to a citizen who has distinguished himself in law enforcement and the surrounding community through extraordinary deeds or accomplishments that support the mission of the sheriff’s office.”Commissioner Brown and Huffman have both been advocates of the sheriff’s work throughout their terms as commissioners. Both will be leaving office in January 2000.Is the Hyatt-Regency really coming to Falcon?Rumors are flying that the Hyatt-Regency is coming to Falcon. The NFH has made a couple calls to the hotel giant – no reply as of this date. We’ll keep you updated!
