At the annual Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor convention in San Diego in March, Colorado Springsí Total Roofing owner Scott McIntyre was nominated for the Spirit Award. Each of the 130 Platinum Preferred Contractors had an opportunity to receive the award based on their involvement in their respective communities.ìWe sponsored the charity River Run for Orphans,î McIntyre said. ìWe sponsored the El Paso County 4-H auction. We donated time and material to a large job at the Springs Church. We do a lot of these things for our community because we love our community.îOwens Corning, founded in 1938, produces residential and commercial building materials, glass-fiber reinforcements and materials engineered for composite systems. The Platinum Preferred Contractor program is a select group of contractors that have met certain criteria and earned a place in the program, McIntyre said. ìThe Platinum Preferred group represents the top 1 percent of contractors in the country,î he said.ìTo be a member of the Platinum group, you have to have been in business for a minimum of five years; have correct workers’ compensation and general liability insurance; be a member of the National Roofing Contractors Association; have a good rating with the Better Business Bureau; and have been a Preferred Contractor for two or three years,î McIntyre said. He said the company also had to submit a safety plan and attend quite a few meetings to earn the Platinum Preferred Contractor label. Not every Preferred Contractor is elevated to Platinum; the company must be nominated and meet the criteria, McIntyre said. ìThe Platinum Preferred program is also great for a customer to see because the warranty through Owens Corning covers not only the parts but the workmanship as well,î McIntyre said. While McIntyre didn’t win the Spirit Award, he was ranked in the top three. ìIt was a blessing,î McIntyre said. ìTo be nominated was phenomenal, and just to be nominated we were already winners.î
