Remodel project closes Sand Creek Branch Library

The Sand Creek Branch Library closed Oct. 1 for a four-month remodeling and expansion project.During construction, patrons can continue to receive service at a temporary branch one door south of its current location at 1821 S. Academy Blvd. The temporary location will open Oct. 6. Hours of operation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.The services available will include a computer lab; a small collection of DVDs, CDs and audio-visual materials; a Rapid Read and Rapid View collection; a book drop and a holds pick-up area, where patrons can pick up materials they have placed on reserve.To handle this community’s growing needs, the building will be expanded from 10,000 to 14,000 square feet. The project will cost an estimated $2 million.The added space will allow the library to offer:

  • Quiet reading room with fireplace
  • Teen area with computers
  • Expanded children’s area
  • Drive-up book return and holds pick-up window
  • 25 adult computers and four express computers
  • CafÈ area
  • Art display area
  • Express check-out machines
  • Improved meeting and study rooms
The library is expected to reopen February 2009.
