If you or someone you know is passionate about poetry, the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project would like to hear from you. The deadline for nominations for the region’s first Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project is Feb. 15; individuals can apply by Feb. 29.The goal of the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project is to designate the best of the region’s poets as Poet Laureate and to support programs that connect poets and poetry with the community in El Paso and Teller counties. The project will kick off April 12 at East Library with an announcement and awards ceremony.The selected poet will serve a two-year term and take his or her work throughout the region to business gatherings, colleges campuses, K-12 schools, community centers and more. The Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project will also connect other regional poets with community groups and schools for special events.The project’s presenting partners are Pikes Peak Library District, Colorado College, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the cultural office of the Pikes Peak Region and Poetry West.Information, nomination forms and application instructions can be found at www.pikespeakpoetlaureate.org or by calling COPPeR at 719-634-2204.
