This display includes panels, maps, and books on the people and landmarks central to the exploration and mapping of the west, from Coronado and the Spanish explorers in the 16th century through the surveyors and completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869.May 1 through June 30 – 1905 Carnegie Library at Penrose Library, 20 N. Cascade Ave.Artist Christine Pitto’s exhibit titled “It’s a Beautiful Life” includes photos of landscape, people, and animals.May 1 – 31 – East Library, 5550 N. Union Blvd.”One Artist – Two Worlds” is an exhibition featuring the works of Colorado Springs artist Dennis Woods, who works in oil painting and photography. This exhibit will feature more than 35 pieces of Woods’ impressionistic paintings and photography. Woods was recently accepted into the Oil Painters of America. Woods will host an opening reception on May 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the East Library. His works can also be viewed at www.denniswoodsfineart.com and www.denniswoodsphotography.com.Library programs for seniorsAARP Mature Safe Driving ProgramThe AARP Mature Safe Driving Program is the nation’s first and largest classroom driver refresher course specially designed for motorists age 50 and older. Upon successfully completing the course, graduates may present their course completion certificate to their insurance agents for a discount. A minimum of 10 students is required for the class to be held. Charge for the eight-hour course is $10.
