Boy Scout Troop 444 of Peyton recently took first place in the High Plains Klondike Derby. The annual event featured competition in skills such as matchless fire building, trail cooking and a sled race, which is run on dry ground on wheels. The troop secured the most points in the 12 featured events against at least 10 other troops.The team consisted of Brandon Pelton-Cox, Daniel Schaal, Preston Martinez, Ashton Martinez, Matthew Benett and Cole James. They were accompanied by leaders Jim Frohbieter, Mark Benett, Craig Phipps and Alex James.On Feb. 7, Brandon Pelton-Cox of Colorado Springs and Aaron Barger of Pueblo were honored in an Eagle Ceremony held at Black Forest Community Church. Both attained the rank of Eagle Scout and are former long-time residents of Peyton. They were honored with a performance of the Order of the Arrow Ha-Kin-Skay-A-Ki Bowman Dance Team. Troop 444 performed a flag ceremony for the event.
