The Peyton Fire Protection District is now accepting applications for a volunteer fire chief, a part time position with many responsibilities.As stated in the official requirements posted by the board of directors, “The Volunteer Fire Chief is accountable for the overall management of department operations and administration.”Those interested in applying must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license and fire service training experience, which includes but is not limited to Colorado Firefighter I (or equivalent) and Colorado EMT-B certification. Five years of fire service experience, as well as previous fire officer experience, is a minimum requirement.According to the Peyton Fire Protection District Web site, “The Volunteer Fire Chief … leads and directs the Peyton Fire Department and all volunteer firefighters in (the) suppression of fires and in preserving lives, the environment and property.”When choosing a candidate, the selection committee will consider availability to the station, personal ambition and personality traits.Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, and applications must be received no later than Friday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. Applicants must submit a written application.
