Peyton scouts recognized

Peyton Boy Scout Troop 444 congratulated two of its newest Honor Society members and National Youth Leadership Trained Scouts. Star Scouts Matthew Benett, 15, and Daniel Schaal, 15, were elected into the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouting’s Honor Camper Society; and completed ordeal initiation this summer to begin their membership. Benett and Schaal also attended National Youth Leadership Training at San Isabel Scout Ranch near Beulah, Colo. The Order of the Arrow (OA) has more than 180,000 members in lodges affiliated with more than 300 BSA local councils. The ordeal induction ceremony is the first step toward full membership. During the experience, candidates maintain complete silence, receive small amounts of food, work on camp improvement projects and are required to sleep apart from other campers, which teaches significant values in silent contemplation, scant food, arduous labor and cheerful service.NYLT is a youth leadership development-training program of the BSA. It is a program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.Benett currently serves Troop 444 as senior patrol leader and Schaal serves as patrol leader.
