More than 1,000 of the top dog and handler teams competed in the American Kennel Club National Agility Championship in Sunbury, Ohio, March 30 through April 1. Katrina Scott and her Border Collie, Baby, of Peyton, were among 28 teams vying for the title.Katrina and Baby participated in the off-leash timed agility course, going for a perfect 100 score. Katrina owns Friendship Academy Agility Dogs, an agility training center in Peyton.Greg Scott, Katrinaís husband and media person, said agility competition is the AKCís fastest-growing sport. ìAgility demonstrates a dogís willingness to work with its handler in a variety of situations,î Greg said. Itís all about how the dog, with its handler as the coach, uses skills like jumping and balancing to negotiate a myriad of obstacle courses.The championships took place after the NFH deadline.
