Pet store opens in Falcon

Kathy and Ted Mischer and Diamond, their pet pot-bellied pig, opened Furr & Finns Pet Store in the Safeway shopping center (in the former Sweet Tooth location) in December. The Black Forest couple said they’ve seen plenty of support from the Falcon community. The Mischers’ store specializes in small animals, including fish, reptiles and birds, and pet supplies. ìWe don’t know exactly what we need to carry to meet the needs here,î Ted Mischer said. ìAs customers come in, we’ll find out what they need and make sure to carry it for them.îDiamond, the black pot-bellied pig store mascot, has become an instant celebrity among Falcon families. ìShe’s been the talk of the town; she comes to greet people at the door,î Mischer said. ìPeople have already been putting pictures with her on Facebook, and we have a bowl of cabbage here on the counter people can use with her. The kids love her.îKathy Mischer worked in a pet store in the past, but she and Ted Mischer are starting the business new. ìThis is our first venture,î Kathy Mischer said. ìWe thought about what would be fun that we should invest money in, and this is what we thought of. We looked around and saw there was a need. A lot of people have said they’re happy we’re here.îPreviously, Ted Mischer was a trails manager for Jefferson County. The couple also owns an eBay store called ìNever Ending Treasure Trove.îFurr & Finns took about three months to open. ìWe had to do some repainting, since the ice cream store that was here before had neon colors,î Kathy Mischer said. ìBecause of the animals, we had state inspections to make sure everything was OK for them.îFurr & Finns is in the Safeway shopping center near Woodmen Dental and Falcon Family Eye Care.
