Summer camps are offering a myriad of activities for kids in Falcon and the Pikes Peak area this summer. There’s something for everyone, from pottery to sports to outdoor adventures to computers to science experiments. The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is offering day trips as well as various themed camps for children in the Woodmen Hills or Meridian Ranch communities. There are only 20 spaces available to kids age 6 to 11, and, if it doesn’t fill up, others outside those communities will be allowed to sign up.The nine weeklong camps start May 30. Options include a five-day camp for $130 or a three-day camp for $86 with a $25 nontransferable deposit. The prices increase to $145 and $101 for non-Woodmen Hills or Meridian Ranch residents as space allows. The hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., but kids can arrive as early as 6:30 a.m. and stay as late at 6 p.m. If parents opt for the extended hours option, the Woodmen Hills Recreational Center said there is an additional cost.A day trip is available as well. For a nominal fee, kids will go on field trips to some of Colorado Springs’ popular tourist sights like Garden of the Gods, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the U.S. Olympic Training Center and Sky Sox Stadium.James Divine, an instrumental music teacher at Falcon High School, is offering two opportunities for kids, parents or even grandparents. Divine said he is trying to start what he calls the Falcon Community Orchestra, which is primarily for children who have completed grades six through eight and have studied some kind of band or string instrument for at least a year. Divine said parents and grandparents are welcome to join the children. He said rehearsals begin on Thursday, May 25, and they will meet once a week in the Falcon High School band room. After six weeks, the orchestra will perform a mini concert on July 5. The cost to join the orchestra is $50 per person. The sign-up deadline for the community orchestra is mid-May.Divine also is offering a weeklong jazz clinic that will start June 27. The clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Falcon High School band room. Again, it is for students who have completed grade six through eight and have studied an instrument for at least a year. Divine said the clinic would end with all participants performing a concert on the last day. The cost for the clinic is $100. The deadline to sign up is May 31, after that, the cost increases to $140.CAMPS IN FALCONYMCA Summer Day Camps at Woodmen Hills East Recreational CenterMagic and Make BelieveMay 29-June 2That’s EntertainmentJune 5 – June 9Art AdventuresJune 12 – June 16Silly SportsJune 19 -June 23Crazy CarnivalJune 26 – June 30The Wild WestJuly 3 – July 7Treasure IslandJuly 10 – July 14The Great OutdoorsJuly 17 – July 21Summer Fun in the Sun!July 24 – July 28Splash!July 31 – Aug 4Contact Information: (719) 495-2009Falcon Community OrchestraCost: $50Grades: 6-8Contact Information: (719) 390-3212 or www.divinemusic.comJazz ClinicCost: $100 After May 31 – $140Grades: 6-8Contact Information: (719) 390-3212 or www.divinemusic.comCAMPS IN COLORADO SPRINGS AND THE SURROUNDING AREASAdobe MobyDescription: Do-it-yourself ceramic and pottery studioDates: Begins June 5Cost per week or session: $30-$200Ages: Recommend age 5 and upContact Information: (719) 266-6022 or www.adobe-moby.comAnderson Western Colorado CampsDescription: Outdoor and wilderness adventure campDates: Two and three week sessions starting June 18Cost per week or session: $900-$3225Ages: 6-17Contact Information: (970) 524-7766, www.andersoncamps.com or Email: andecamp@andersoncamps.comArtSportsDescription: Dance, gymnastics, and trampolinesDates: May 26-Aug 18Cost per week or session: $35-$1200Ages: 4-12Contact Information: (719) 531-5867 or www.artsportsworld.comBlue Mountain Ranch Youth CampDescription: Outdoor and wilderness adventure campDates: Sessions start June 10Cost: $1700 (16 days) or $2150 (25 days)Ages: 7-15Contact Information: (719) 748-3279 or www.bluemountainranch.comCheyenne Mountain ZooDescription: Campers meet animals up close, explore the outdoors, interact with zookeepers, make treats for the animals, design cool crafts, and play games.Dates: Week long sessions starting May 30Cost per week or session: $150 members $160 non membersAges: 5-15Contact Information: (719) 633-9925 ext. 127Colorado Springs SchoolDescription: Dinosaurs, crafts, fashion, and treasure hunts are just a few of the topics for several themed campsDates: Nine week long sessions starting June 12Cost per week or session: $120-$350 for week long sessions or $25 per classGrades: PreK-5Contact Information: (719) 475-9747 or Email cnissen@css.orgColorado Springs School Kodiak Basketball CampDescription: Focus on the fundamentals of the game, including rules, shooting and basic skillsDates: June 5-9Cost per week or session: $150Ages: 6-16Contact Information: (719) 475-9747 ext. 177Colorado Springs Swim TeamDescription: Eight-week competitive program and swimming LessonsDates: Competitive program May-July 23; Swimming lesson sessions starting June 5Cost per week or session: $40/child/session for nonmembers $30 for membersAges: Six months and upContact Information: (719) 634-0270 or www.ccstswimming.comColvig Silver CampsDescription: Outdoor and wilderness adventure campDates: Two and four week sessions starting June 12Cost per week or session: $1720-$3920Ages: 7-17Contact Information: (800) 858-2850 or (970) 247-2564; www.colvigsilvercamps.com; or Email: colvigsilvercamps@compuserve.comEagle Lake CampDescription: Outdoor and wilderness adventure campDates: Week long sessions starting June 4Cost per week or session: $418-$4728Ages: 8-22Contact Information: (800) US-EAGLE or (719) 472-1260; www.EagleLake.orgFirst Presbyterian ChurchDescription: Creativity, sports and music and drama campsDates: Week long sessions starting June 12Cost per week or session: $60-$295Grades: K-12Contact Information: (719) 884-6207; www.first-pres.org; or Email: camps@first-pres.orgGolden BellDescription: Outdoor and wilderness adventure campDates: Sessions starting June 13Cost per week or session: $105-$235Grades: 1-12Contact Information: (719) 687-9561; www.GoldenBellCCC.org; or Email: info@GoldenBellCCC.orgIT Tech CampsDescription: Blends traditional summer camp with visionary technology instructionDates: Week long sessions starting June 18Cost per week or session: $300-$1,099Ages: 7-17Contact Information: (888) 709-TECH or www.internalDrive.comRenaissance Academy Environmental CenterDescription: Explore various environmental aspects such as bugs, birds and wildlife, and plant lifeDates: Week long sessions starting June 12Cost per week or session: $99-$198Ages: 5-11Contact Information: (719) 475-2510 or www.RAEC.orgScience MattersDescription: Hands-on experiments that include rockets and robotsDates: Week long sessions starting June 19Cost per week or session: $259 (full days) $140 per (half days)Grades: K-6Contact Information: (866) KIDZFUN or (303) 805-9287; www.sciencematters.tv
