Lt. Col. Nicholas Ordon Sr. USAF Ret.June 16, 1924 – April 17, 2010Retired from military service and public school service, a long-time resident of Colorado Springs and Falcon died April 17 after a short illness. Nicholas Ordon Sr. was born June 16, 1924, in Utica, NY and was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Lottie (Szablak) Ordon. Mr. Ordon is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Beverly, his children and their spouses: Nick Jr. and Katy of Los Gatos, Calif.; Kimberly and Allan of Woodinville, Wash.; and grandchildren, Tiffany, her husband Bryan; and Keenan; sisters- and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.Mr. Ordon was a combat veteran of WWII and served in the U.S. Navy. He was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force after graduation from the University of Iowa in 1951 and was also a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Ordon received numerous military awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit and the Nuclear Safety Award. Following retirement from military service in 1970, he became a science teacher and eventually a principal at Calhan Public School. Mr. Ordon also was an assistant professor at El Paso Community College. He worked another 15 years in education. In 1987, Mr. Ordon was appointed secretary/treasurer of the Falcon Fire Protection District Board. He was a charter member of the fire department and culminated his service as president of the board in 2000.From 1968 to 1972, Mr. Ordon was president of the Falcon District 49 School Board. In 2006, Nick and Beverly Ordon founded the Falcon Senior Services organization, and he acted as the board secretary. He immensely enjoyed working with the seniors group: cooking, storing, transporting and storytelling.Mr. Ordon was proud to serve his country and the communities in which he and his family lived. He and his wife always supported schools, fire and police services and other community organizations.In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to:

From the NFH:In the 1980s, Nick and Bev Ordon also founded Falcon Property Owners, a community organization that reviewed development issues in Falcon and presented input and information to the El Paso County Board of Commissioners.Obviously, Mr. Ordon (and Bev) has had a significant role in building the Falcon community.Mr. Ordon was an icon, dedicated to students, firefighters and all the people and areas he served. His commitment to community lives on forever.When the NFH began publishing in 2004, Nick and Bev Ordon became avid supporters and encouraged the growth of the newspaper. Both were always willing to provide a bit of history and information about our community.It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our friend, Mr. Ordon.
