I am a Republican candidate for the county commissioner’s race for District 2, and I am dismayed that some news media, such as the Gazette and Channel 11, have singled out Douglas Bruce on issues where only one side of the argument is heard.I participated in the precinct caucus and was a delegate to the Republican Assembly. I saw the product of the assembly and also observed four candidates who decided to petition onto the ballot. After analyzing the results of the Aug. 10 election, it was clear to me that we needed a candidate who could appeal to the grass roots rank-and-file voters. Ninety percent of registered voters did not vote. Apathy and disinterest have become almost epidemic.I therefore have become a write-in candidate for the office of El Paso County Commissioner, District 2. I believe I am the “little train” that can!I differ from my opponents in that I look at all the good in Colorado and El Paso County: the views of our mountains to the west; our open plains and ranchlands and farmlands to the east; our parks and trails (open spaces); our outdoor recreation areas. I look at our clean air, our own special kinds of citizens and those with a heritage from around the world. I look at the Olympic center, world-class educational institutions, multi-faith religious communities, our quality of life and most precious of all our democratic form of government.But I also know we have things to fix, and I believe we can fix them together – after all, we in government work for the citizens. I believe that all people are fundamentally good and want to serve the people, sometimes sacrificing opportunities to earn a much higher compensation. I will spend time much like the “circuit rider” of the old west in all parts of District 2, and I will always welcome visitors to my workplace, after all, they pay for the space.I ask all voters, regardless of your party affiliation, to get out and vote this time.
