November Chamber Meeting Wrap-Up

By Larry Sparks

Charles Schulz’ character Lucy Van Pelt once mused, “What’s Thanksgiving without a turkey? We need a turkey!” As it turns out, Fresh Start Center needs lots of turkeys for the many local families in need.

This November, the Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce (EPCC) has joined with Mountain View Electric Association (MVEA) to collect turkeys for Fresh Start Center. Grant Winger, executive director of Fresh Start Center, told this writer that the need is great for local families this year: 461 families have reached out to the center for assistance this year. Mountain View Electric Association and the Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce are committed to doing all that we can to fight food insecurity this season.

Thanks to the faithful generosity of the members of both MVEA and EPCC, Fresh Start Center was able to collect 354 turkeys just in time for Thanksgiving. The Eastern Plains Chamber was also able to donate over $590 for Fresh Start Center so that local families can enjoy a meal on Thanksgiving.

As we all settle down for the holidays with family and friends, we encourage all to give thanks for our nation, our community, our local businesses and for our neighbors. We are especially thankful for the generosity of so many that allow Fresh Start Center and its many volunteers to serve our community with gladness.

Merry Christmas to all!

The chamber meets on the first Wednesday of each month at Grace Community Church in Falcon. For more information, visit https://www.easternplainschamber.com/.
