Mountain View Electric Association Inc. is sponsoring an essay contest for high school juniors, and also offering seniors an opportunity to receive a scholarship.The junior who is awarded first-place in the essay contest will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, which takes place in June. More than 1,800 students from the United States will compete. MVEA second and third-place contest winners in the juniors category will be invited to the Colorado Electric Education Instituteís Youth Leadership Camp in Clark, Colorado, just outside Steamboat Springs, in July.To enter, juniors must write a 500-word essay, answering the following questions: ìWhat is the difference between energy conservation and energy efficiency? Do you feel that members should use one method over the other if they want to use less energy?î Essays must be received by Monday, Nov. 20.MVEA will also award 14 $1,000-scholarships to graduating seniors. Thirteen scholarships will be given to students planning to attend accredited colleges, universities and junior colleges or community colleges this fall. MVEA will also award one, $1,000 vocational/technical scholarship to a student entering an occupational training program of two years or less at an accredited vocational/technical school, community college or junior college. The scholarship program allows MVEA to invest in the community and help ensure a bright future for the next generation of electric co-op members.
