Nearly 300 people attended Mountain View Electric Association Inc.ís 77th Annual Meeting of Members June 7 at the Calhan School in Calhan, Colorado. Attendees enjoyed dinner, information booths, prize drawings and the MVEA business meeting.While the location of the annual meeting changes each year, rotating throughout the MVEA service territory, the purpose of the meeting remains the same: to take care of the important business of the electric cooperative and the equally important business of building a real sense of community.In three districts, the board of directorsí three-year terms were over. The directors in each district were uncontested, and all incumbents were re-elected: District 1 ó Joseph D. Martin; District 4 ó Milton L. Mathis; and District 6 ó Barry R. Springer.Education chairman Barry Springer reported on the $14,000 in scholarships awarded this year. Joe Martin, board president, and Jim Herron, chief executive offer, provided information on the state of the cooperative that included highlights of MVEAís capital credits retirement program, as well as MVEAís continued growth because of new construction, dedication to serving the co-op community and MVEAís energy efficiency efforts. Dean Coontz received special recognition for the 40 years he has served MVEA members.Door prizes were provided by MVEA; Tri-State Generation and Transmission, power supplier; Foothills Energy, a MVEA construction contractor; and the electrical supply cooperative, Western United Supply. In addition, the four winners of MVEAís $500 Whole Home LED giveaway were announced: Ronald & Michelle Carr of Peyton, Thomas & Jeanette Cole of Elbert, Tim & Janet Schulte of Monument and Darlia Simmons of Calhan.The annual meeting also provides members an opportunity to express their opinions on MVEA via an interactive polling session. MVEA will also be sending encouragement, prayers, well wishes and cards to the sponsored officers.The MVEA has sponsored the following officers: El Paso County Sheriffís Office Sgt. Mike Waters, who routinely patrols the Falcon area; Logan Wilkins, who is the districtís wildlife manager in Limon; and Fred Wyler, the town of Limonís most senior police officer.Inspired by the generosity of MVEA employees, the MVEA Board of Directors matched the $3,600 in donations to sponsor additional officers serving the community. Shield616 will assign officers to MVEA in June.ìWhen the idea of raising funds for Shield616 was brought to our employees, they were very excited,î said Jim Herron, MVEA chief executive officer. ìWe originally hoped to raise enough funds to support two officers but were able to sponsor three. Now, through our board of directors match, we are able to provide more gear to the men and women who protect our communities. Itís an honor to be part of this cause.îShield616 has a goal of equipping every officer with necessary advanced active shooter and crowd control gear.
