NOT EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAYGary Guy Mathews, 44, is a “furry.” The Green Tree, Penn. man likes dressing up in a dog costume. Mathews says his special affinity for the 1980 TV show “Here’s Boomer,” about a heroic stray, is behind the petition he filed in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court to change his name to “Boomer the Dog.” Among the exhibits in support of his petition was a letter from a friend who goes by the name Hobnose Bordercollie. But Judge Ronald W. Folino denied Mathews’ name change, ruling it could “cause confusion in the community” and has the “likelihood of unintended consequences,” such as being “seen as bizarre.” Plus, the judge added, Mathews simply “is not a dog.”(Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) Let’s just hope Boomer is not a registered voter.‘KISS’ ME IN ILLINOIS“A lot of it was purely out of boredom,” explains Terry Traster, 32, about his little hobby: He likes to dress up as Gene Simmons in his Kiss rock-band costume. The Moweaqua, Ill. man says that he’s been doing it for more than two years, and with practice, it now only takes him an hour and a half to get into makeup and costume. That practice helped him win the Illinois State Fair’s Kiss Costume Competition. Well, that and he was the only contestant. (Springfield State Journal-Register)Source: www.thisistrue.com
