Mountain View Electric Association has joined a nationwide coalition of electric cooperatives to honor and employ veterans, military service members and their spouses. The coalition, Serve Our Co-ops; Serve Our Country, provides actionable resources and training to help co-ops attract, hire and retain veterans.Serve our Co-ops; Serve our Country was launched in January 2016 by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, the national service organization that represents Americaís electric cooperatives. While many co-ops independently employ veterans and military spouses, NRECA created the coalition to increase outreach to veterans and encourage collaboration on veteran hiring efforts. The coalition currently comprises more than 85 co-ops in 29 states, and has hired more than 30 veterans to date.Over the next five years, more than one million service members will transition out of the military. Electric co-ops expect to see more than 15,000 retirements over the same time period. Veterans offer many of the technical, leadership and safety skills that the next-generation utility industry demands, making them well-suited to fill many of these positions. For more information on Serve Our Co-op; Serve Our Country, visit http://ServeVets.coop.
