Where are the Greyhounds?A Calhan, Colo., Greyhound breeder and trainer, Richard Favreau, was the subject of an October hearing conducted by the Arizona Department of Racing. Favreau had been contracted by a Tuscon dog track to haul former race dogs to Colorado for placement with Greyhound adoption organizations. He transported numerous dogs from the Arizona race track from November 2005 through July 2006. The dogs were supposed to be destined for new homes, but Favreau was not able to provide evidence supporting the Greyhounds destination.”The missing dogs could be anywhere,” said Susan Netboy, president of the Greyhound Protection League. “The one thing we know for sure is that the Greyhounds are not where they are supposed to be – in loving, responsible homes.”Favreau has received a mere $1,000 fine and a 60-day suspension of his Arizona racing license.GPL has issued a national alert for information linking the Greyhounds whereabouts – a $10,000 reward is offered as well.GPL is putting out a national alert that greyhounds are missing and that there is reward money available for the safe recovery of the dogs and/or significant other information. The League, which offered an initial reward of $1000 for the missing greyhounds, has subsequently received additional pledge monies from greyhound advocates around the country. The current reward stands at $10,000.”All we can do is pray that someone will respond,” Netboy said, “so that these dogs don’t become casualties of the greyhound racing industry like the other 15,000 Greyhounds that disappear every year.Isn’t Vegas enough?Instead of child support, it’s prisonBOOMERANG: Twenty-two-year-old Kimberly Baker of Warrensburg, N.Y., went to court to ask the judge to order the father of her 2-year-old daughter to pay support. She identified the father as a 16- year-old boy she knows. The judge did some quick math: Baker was 19 years old when she was impregnated by the 13-year-old. Baker was arrested on charges of second-degree rape of a minor. She faces up to seven years in prison.
