Meadow Lake Airport “Take-offs”

By Dave Elliott, airport manager

This year looks to be a big year for Front Range aviation as we celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday and Colorado’s 150th anniversary. Colorado’s airports will be holding a number of public events. The following events are currently scheduled:

April 18:  Wings & Wheels:Pueblo Weisbrod Air Museum (PUB): Wings & Wheels Car Show – Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum

Aug. 1: Colorado Airshow: Rocky Mountain Metro (BJC): Mile High 150 Expo – August 1, 2026

Sept 19-20: Pikes Peak Airshow:  Colorado Springs Airport (COS): Pikes Peak Regional Airshow 2026 | Colorado’s Premier Air Show – Visit Colorado Springs

Meadow Lake Airport is planning to have five open house events this summer on the third Saturday of each month. The displays will be held on the special events ramp at the Meadow Lake Activities Center (west side of the airport off Blue Gill Drive, across from Smith Farmer’s Market). We invite the Falcon community to join us!

Each month will highlight a different aspect of Meadow Lake’s contribution to the Colorado Aviation System and the economic benefit to the Falcon community and El Paso County.  Save the date. Detailed information will be published in this column each month prior to the specific event: (Save the dates.)

This year brings a reconstruction of the public aircraft parking ramp, using FAA and CDOT funding (with a local match). This parking/tie-down ramp is used by visiting aircraft and aircraft waiting for an opening in the 450 hangar units at Meadow Lake. Note: The annual Based Aircraft Inventory at the end of 2025 showed a slight increase to 479 based aircraft at Meadow Lake.
