Massage therapist works out the kinks

For those with stiff, achy muscles, Falcon has a new place for them to get relief. Tisa Thorne, licensed massage therapist, recently opened Massage Therapy of Falcon. She offers a variety of massage techniques, including Swedish, deep tissue, rehabilitation and neuromuscular therapy. To loosen tight muscles, Thorne has a couple of tricks up her sleeve. “I like to put the hot stones on the back. I place them all along the back while I work the back of the legs,” she said. “And then by the time I get up to the back it’s nice and relaxed.Thorne said she likes working with people who have medical issues. Massage therapy is an effective treatment for many medical problems, including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, sciatica and uterine pains, she said. “I have worked with people that went through surgeries, hysterectomies and different cancer surgeries; and, because of the surgery itself you’ll tighten,” Thorne said. “You (the massage therapist) come through and work that out – the stiffness along with scar tissue that will develop a couple of months after surgery. You can break up scar tissue to a certain extent to get some relief.”Other groups benefit from massage therapy as well. Military personnel, correction officers and police officers tend to have shoulder tension that can cause migraines, Thorne said.People who work all day on computers often have muscular problems. “They’ll lose a lot of circulation in their arms, they’ll get a lot of stiffness in the neck, a lot of migraines,” Thorne said. “I always call them plywood because their back is that hard.”Massage Therapy of Falcon is located at 12440 Rio Lane.
