The DeYoung family is literally breaking new ground in Falcon. Randy, along with his wife, Cindy, and two children – Brandon and Tricia, are the owner/operators of Falcon Broadband, a state-of-the art telecommunications business. Beginning in mid-April, the family became the new owners of Falcon Storage, LLC, a mini storage facility.”We just got the final plate approved for it right behind the bus barn (located just south of Woodmen Road),” said DeYoung. He said construction of the storage facility, which will begin mid-May, would be broken up into two phases. Phase I will include approximately 87,000 square feet of storage space, while Phase II will add 50,000 square feet. “When complete, it should be one of the largest ones in El Paso County,” he reported. “There is nothing in Falcon, as we all know, right now.”DeYoung said the new storage facility will also include moving or rental truck services. “Along with that [the storage facility], we are going to have a U-Haul or a Penske truck or one of the other places,” he said.As if the building of a new storage facility and rental services isn’t enough, the Falcon family is also breaking new grounds with their telecommunications business, Falcon Broadband, by offering some of the state’s firsts. “Over in Falcon, we have a test pocket or an area over there that we have fiber-to-the-home networking,” DeYoung said. “It is one of the first true fiber-to-the-home networks in the whole state of Colorado,” which means that fiber optic cables are wired directly to the home without the use of coax or other wires. “It is the latest and greatest technologies that are there and for years to come,” he said.DeYoung said that Falcon Broadband has agreed to provide its fiber-to-the-home services for the entire Falcon Metropolitan District. After eight months, DeYoung said he and his company are getting ready to launch a new feature used in conjunction with high-speed Internet capabilities – VoIP Service or Voiceover Internet Protocol. VoIP is a method for taking analog audio signals, like the kind heard when you talk on the phone, and turning them into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet. In addition to some of the high tech services available, DeYoung said they also offer basic services, including phone. “We are a regular telephone company also,” he said. “Falcon Broadband is just not a wireless or not just a cable TV firm, but it is a regular telecommunications and telephone company.” DeYoung and his families bought the telephone company, Sun West Communications, about a year and a half ago and have continued to build on it.The Falcon entrepreneur said he is yet to find another company that has all the products offered through Falcon Broadband. “We’re one of the only companies in the United States that has all these products in such a small, little place.””Falcon is a neat little place,” he stated. “And we work real hard on trying to build it up.”
