The Velvet Hills Show Chorus competed in the 63rd Annual Sweet Adelines International Competition held in Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 20-24. The competition is held each fall and provides both a competition arena for the organization’s best quartets and choruses and an educational experience for thousands of members. Members of the chorus from Falcon and Peyton are Jennifer Zucker, Marsha Weiss, Patti Kirkwood, Carol Hathcock and Ione Freidly.The Velvet Hills won the Sweet Adelines Region 8 competition held in Salt Lake City, Utah, in April 2008, which qualified them to compete in the 2009 International Competition. There are 600 choruses worldwide.Velvet Hills’ competition songs for the semi-finals included “How Deep is the Ocean” by Irving Berlin and “Smile Medley” arranged by Clay Hine. In the finals, Velvet Hills competed with “Young & Foolish” by Arnold Horwitt & Albert Hague and “Perfect Barbershop Song” by Lynnell Diamond. Velvet Hills placed fifth overall in the 2009 International Competition. Master Director, Kathy Carmody, and each member of Velvet Hills received a medal for their accomplishment.
