Linda Cink and Dayna Jenkins, Falcon area business women, have been named finalists for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Man and Woman of the Year fundraising competition. The contest began Feb. 1 and wraps up April 12, with a grand finale gala at the Antlers Hilton in Colorado Springs, Colo.The LLS Executive Leadership Committee chose four women and three men from the Pikes Peak region as finalists. Each metropolitan area around the country hosts local competitions, and the top fundraisers in the country are named LLS National Man and Woman of the Year.Linda Cink is the co-founder of LnB Connectors, a business networking consulting firm. Along with co-founder Brian Swanson, she hosts networking events and organizations in Falcon and Colorado Springs, including Falcon Mixer and Business Entrepreneurs Enhancing Relationships. ìMy brother had a scare with lymphoma, but I’m doing this in honor of my friend Kathleen Voss, who had a number of family members affected by leukemia and lymphoma,î Cink said.Cink is using the large network of contacts she has formed through LnB Connectors to raise money through several events throughout the 10-week contest. ìWe engaged with our LnB organizations to do charity fundraisers,î Cink said. She and Swanson sponsored a 5k family fun run that included a kickoff race among eight local mascots, including Sox the Fox, the Chic Fil A Cow and the Texas Roadhouse Armadillo. On April 5, Cink is hosting a ìRat Packî costume party at the Cobalt Club in Colorado Springs.Dayna Jenkins said she has been helping the cause against cancer of all types in honor of her grandmother, who lost a battle with the disease. She has been a committee member for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event for the last four years. ìI believe that in my generation we will see a cure for cancer,î Jenkins said. ìI truly believe that, but we need to continue research to do that.î She works as the volunteer coordinator for the Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center at the Latigo Heritage Center in Elbert, Colo.Jenkins is sponsoring the LLS Polo Tournament at the Denver Polo Club April 6. ìI wanted to bring attention to a sport I find so fascinating and be able to also give all the profit to fight leukemia and lymphoma,î she said.To find out more information about the Man and Woman of the Year competitors, visit the Rocky Mountain chapter at http://mwoy.org/rm/.
