Local barrel racer’s dreams come true

Professional barrel racer and Falcon resident Diann Bukowski recently earned a ticket to the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo (DNCFR) in Pocatello, Idaho, after winning the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo title in Denver, with a three-run total time of 50.02 seconds. The DNCFR is home to the crowning event in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association circuit system, which is made up of 12 geographical regions or individual circuits. The Mountain States Circuit consists of Colorado and Wyoming. Two contenders are chosen from each event (the top money winner and the winner of the finals) at the year-end finals of each circuit. Twenty-four participants from each rodeo event advance to the Dodge National Circuit Final Rodeo, where all records of the 24 individuals are wiped clean, which allows anyone an opportunity to be crowned the National circuit champion. On March 19 through 22, Bukowski will be one of the 24 pro barrel racer contenders. She said she is thrilled with the opportunity to compete in the DNCFR, but gives much of the credit to her “phenomenal” horse and partner, Quixote. “He is the most awesome animal I have ever had, and I have ridden a lot of horses,” Bukowski said. The 13-year-old horse went from a cutting horse to a ranch horse, but is now thoroughly enjoying the limelight, she said.”I love it,” Bukowski said. “But when I’m not on the road, I’m working at the Falcon Animal Clinic or spending time with my husband and 15 year-old son, who also likes to rodeo.”She said the DNCFR is a “big deal” to any rodeo cowboy or cowgirl, but to Bukowski, who has been barrel racing since age 8, it’s a dream come true. “It is something I have wanted to do my whole life,” Bukowski said. “I am finally getting to do it.”
