The Colorado State AARP Organization presented the Black Forest AARP Chapter #1100 with a check for $100 and the designation as the Colorado Bronze Chapter for 2008. This is the fifth time in the last five years that the Black Forest AARP Chapter has been rated in the top four of the 34 Colorado AARP Chapters. Chapter awards are based on chapter organization and administration, educational outreach, AARP advocacy, membership, community service, Day of Service and Diversity.Black Forest Chapter member, Don Von Gunden, was individually recognized by AARP Colorado as the AARP Tax-Aide Program Outstanding Volunteer. Von Gunden is the district coordinator for the area that includes five sites in Colorado Springs and one site each in Security, Woodland Park and Monument. He oversaw 65 certified tax-aide counselors, which over the past year have logged over 2,300 hours and assisted more than 2,500 individuals and families in the preparation of their Colorado and federal tax returns. The AARP Tax-Aide program is a charitable, nonprofit program administered by the AARP Foundation. The program provides free, nationwide confidential tax assistance service to low-to-mid income taxpayers with special attention to those over the age of 60.
