A nationwide search spanning more than eight months has led to the appointment of Paula J. Miller as executive director of the Pikes Peak Library District.Miller assumes her position in February, succeeding JosÈ Aponte, who left PPLD in March to become the director of the San Diego County Public Library.Miller was among more than 35 applicants for the job.She comes to Colorado Springs with ample experience. Miller served as executive director of the Westlake Porter Public Library near Cleveland, Ohio, for 13 years. During her tenure, the library passed four election initiatives, completed a $10.5 million improvement project and expanded services to the community. Westlake Porter Public Library serves a growing suburban community of 33,500 in metro Cleveland.She also writes and speaks on library topics, including human resource management and managing effective election campaigns. Miller is an avid poet and writers’ advocate.The Pikes Peak Library District serves a county population of 508,000 with a budget of $21 million, and employs 360 people at 12 branches.
