In El Paso County, Marsha Looper, an activist who garnered acclaim as the leader of the opposition against the Super Slab toll road designed for the eastern plains, won the GOP nomination to replace term-limited Rep. Richard Decker of Fountain.State Sen. Doug Lamborn won the 5th Congressional District Republican primary beating out Jeff Crank, former chamber of commerce (Colorado Springs) vice president, by a narrow margin. Lamborn received 27 percent of the vote and Crank 25 percent. Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera, considered by many to be a favorite in the race, finished a distant fourth. The seat is open as long time Congressman Joel Hefley retires.
