On March 15, riders from up and down the Front Range participated in the Schooling Horse Show at the Latigo Heritage Center.The Eastern Plains Reining Horse Association sponsored the show.In reining horse contests, riders and their mounts ride a standard pattern and are judged on how well they execute the movements. This equestrian sport is gaining in popularity and is now an Olympic sport. There are many levels of classes and separate classes for men and women, plus children’s events.Haley Wilkison, a club member and the youth president, said the club is pushing for more youth involvement. They also sponsor the country style 4-H clubs’ reining club, the Electric Sliders.”We are already planning a jackpot show July 12 and another jackpot show (Aug. 2 and Aug. 3), along with a clinic,” Wilkison said.For more information, visit www.eprha.org.
