On Aug. 4, the Calhan Lions Club provided 102 kids from the Falcon, Calhan, Peyton, Simla, Ellicott, Miami-Yoder and Edison school districts with a $75 shopping spree at Wal-Mart. The kids purchased school clothing and shoes and received a backpack filled with school supplies.KidSpree is in its fourth year. Pikes Peak Community Action identifies the participants, and the Lion’s Club teams up with Wal-Mart, Farmers State Bank and Mountain View Electric to make it all happen. Calhan Lion’s Club member shop with the kids, and community volunteers assist with the event as well.The kids were purposefully not identified by name in the picture.
