On May 2, the new 12,000-square-foot indoor pool addition to the original Meridian Ranch Recreation Center opened for business. Meridian Service Metropolitan District owns the facility, but the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region operates the center, which is open to Meridian Ranch residents and YMCA members. The addition features a kiddie pool and play structure, a lazy river, spa, lap pool, activity pool, party/meeting room and an additional upstairs fitness area.More than 400 residents and members attended the grand opening. Drawings were held to determine the first visitors to take a ride on the water slide and swim in each of the new pools. Guests enjoyed hot dogs and refreshments in the gymnasium, while a slideshow chronicled the recreation centerís development and progression.Raul Guzman, vice president of GTL Inc., the Meridian Ranch developer, said, ìThe long-anticipated day for the grand opening of the Meridian Ranch recreation center indoor pool was definitely filled with a lot of happy faces, from the kids as well as the parents.îGuzman said the excitement was evident; and, once the ribbon was cut, children were jockeying for positions around the pool to dip their feet.ìAll the hard work by the architects, contractors and developer employees was all worth it when you saw how excited everyone was to get in the pool,î he said.
