The retail counter you spoke of in your article already exists. Have you been to the Home Depot lately when the place is jammed and they only have self-checkout stands open? One employee stands in the center behind their own little counter overseeing all the checkout stands but unable to help more than one person at a time when a problem occurs. My experience is that more than one check-out stand requires actual human intervention during your own checkout process. I find myself groaning each time I see all human lanes closed.Francine Palmer
