Horse lovers of all ilk gathered for Horseman’s Day Feb. 22 at the Norris-Penrose Event Center. Several events throughout the day drew crowds, including a seminar and book signing by Temple Grandin, an author, speaker and professor at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. Grandin, who is autistic, is well-known for her ability to connect with animals. She presented her unique ideas on training animals.Simone Ahern, a Falcon horse trainer, gave two dressage riding clinics: one for beginners and another for more advanced dressage work. Kids had fun in the Kid Corral, with stick-horse rodeos, face painting, caricature drawings and pony rides. Several vendors sold goods and advertised services, including horse rescue operations. The event has grown throughout the five years of its existence. This year, with the move from Falcon High School to the Penrose center, the event could accommodate riding clinics and horsemanship clinics. People from all over the greater Colorado Springs area attended.
