Dear Editor,We appreciated Kathleen Wallace’s article addressing the pet/horse issues during this economic downturn (“Recession hits pets,” November 2009). The following are two pieces of information that may help horse owners:1. Colorado Horsecare Foodbank helps financially stressed people keep their horses. For more information, visit www.horsefoodbank.org.2. Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue has information on their Web site at www.rrhr.org, called “Other Horses.” It is for people to list their horses that need new homes, bypassing the auction and minimizing the risks that a slaughter buyer would access their horse if they published it on commercial “for sale” sites. We have had success finding homes for many horses, without the horse having to come to a rescue. Either contact us through the Web site or call 719-541-3642 for assistance in listing a horse. Thanks again for your attention to this important issue.Pat MillerFounding DirectorRuby Ranch Horse Rescue501(c)(3) nonprofit organization36785 Ramah Rd.
