An annual fundraising event to assist Pikes Peak Region military personnel and their families takes place in Colorado Springs the weekend of July 28-29. The Kit Carson Riding Club and the National Versatility Ranch Horse Association, a 501c(3) organization, hosts the weekend of low-cost clinics and classes, which introduces horse and riders of all ages and skill sets to the traditions of the ranch horse. One-hundred percent of net proceeds benefit three local nonprofits: YMCA/Camp Shady Brook, Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center, and The Home Front Cares. Last year, the event raised $10,000.The event also includes a military appreciation breakfast, benefit barbecue, silent and live auctions, free activities for kids, wagon rides; and a benefit concert featuring the band, Latigo ñ winners of 12 country music awards. Meals and events cost $5 each. Clinics/classes cost more. With the exception of clinics and classes, military and first responders eat and attend free.
