Heart of the Rockies Texas Longhorn Show

The 14th Annual Heart of the Rockies Texas Longhorn Show is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, at Latigo Trails indoor arena (east of Meridian Road on Latigo Boulevard). The event is free and open to the public. Cattle from Longhorn breeders throughout Colorado and neighboring states will be judged under criteria such as conformation and horn length. A trio of Longhorn riding steers owned by Gary Cole of Penrose, Colo., will be featured. Cole’s steers, saddled and ridden like horses, are veteran parade performers and are at ease jumping through a ring of fire. The steers and their riders will perform during the show at noon. Competition begins at 11 a.m. with a heifer Futurity and the New Breeders division. The open show follows Cole’s performance. Cows with calves, heifers, bulls and steers will all be judged and on display. The audience will also be able to judge the various classes of cattle and see how their selections compare to those of the official judges. The show is produced by the Mountain States Texas Longhorn Association under the International Texas Longhorn Association. For more information, go to www.mstla.org.
