Health Department reinstates child care inspections

The El Paso County Department of Health and Environment reinstated its Child Care Center Health Inspections program April 1. The effort was initiated by a nine-month partial funding commitment from the El Paso County Department of Human Services, utilizing $70,000 in federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) support. The core objectives of the TANF program include helping struggling parents gain financial independence and family stability through career development and social support resources. For many families, child care plays an important role in this process by providing a safe and nurturing environment for children, while their parents pursue careers to improve their families’ circumstances.”The Health Department expresses its deepest gratitude to DHS for filling a serious void in our community – namely, health inspections of new and existing child care centers, which are required by state law in order to obtain and maintain licensure from the State Department of Human Services,” said El Paso County Public Health Director Kandi Buckland, R.N., M.P.A.
