Health department recognized nationally

El Paso County Public Health has been recognized with an Achievement Award from The National Association of Counties has recognized El Paso County Public Health NACo recognized El Paso County Public Healthís medical student training program in the health category. In January 2015, EPCPH partnered with medical students from Rocky Vista University to provide public health training to future physicians in El Paso County.†The new program, coordinated by Dr. James Terbush, vice president of the board of health, is the first such partnership with medical students at Public Health. Rocky Vista University is an Osteopathic Medical School in Parker, Colorado, graduating about 150 new physicians each year.Students spend four weeks of elective rotations in various programs at Public Health, exposing the medical students to actual public health practice. Students research projects that focus on topics such as infectious disease investigation, emergency preparedness, clinical services and tobacco use prevention.†The awards are given in 21 categories, which include include children and youth, criminal justice, county administration, environmental protection, information technology, health, civic engagement and more.†The awards will be presented at NACoís 2015 Annual Conference and Exposition July 10 through July13 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
