A definition of health as found in Dorland’s Medical Dictionary states that “health is a state of optimal physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease.” Health is not a matter of how good you “feel”. Symptoms are not the problem; they are the manifestation of a problem. Look to the cause, not the symptom. Many medications taken today will just mask the symptom, not correct the cause.Webster’s definition of health is “Health is a condition of wholeness in which all of the tissues, organs and systems of the body are functioning at 100 percent all of the time.” In order to be truly healthy, you must have all of your body parts and they must be functioning at 100 percent all of the time.Someone without all of their organs or glands cannot be as healthy, but having these body parts is not enough. The body parts must function at their optimum level. The nervous system controls how the body parts function. Our spine protects a portion of our nervous system called the spinal cord. Branching off the spinal cord are spinal nerves, which travel throughout the body to send messages from the brain to all of our organs and tissues. If just one of the bones in the spine is misaligned, it can interfere with the nervous system and adversely affect health. Chiropractic has been utilized by millions of people for more than 100 years to improve the function of the nervous system, allowing the body to work more efficiently; thereby, improving health. Our nation’s health continues to decline because, overall, we have been inaccurately taught to “wait for sickness and disease” before we take care of ourselves. It’s time to commit to healthier lifestyles and take a proactive position towards optimum well being. Chiropractic is one way. However, just DO something.Go for a walk, ride a bike, take an aerobics class, buy more vegetables, buy fewer bags of chips, learn to dance, turn off the TV, drink more water, drink less pop, get off the couch and onto a treadmill, get more sleep. Whatever it is you choose, the bottom line is this – make better choices for better health.Palmer Chiropractic494-1395www.palmer-chiropractic.com
