Each March marked the anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo, a pivotal 1836 battle during the Texas War of Independence from Mexico. This March marks the 175th anniversary, and we’re still remembering the Alamo. During the battle, all but two of the Alamo’s defenders, including Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett, lost their lives. There’s a rose garden, a Japanese garden, a shade garden and seasonal displays, as well as collections of water-saving plants and ornamental grasses. The glass buildings of the Halsell Conservatory shelter specialty collections that range from cacti to tropical fruit trees.
