The Falcon Flame’s sixth grade girl’s basketball team was undefeated this year, taking first place in the Aurora basketball tournament held the weekend of May 28.Team members Diva Chavez, Kiah Hicks, Kailey Lucky, Toree Murphy, Mariah Nelson, Genevieve Patton, Darci Stechman and Mary Wilmore beat the Stars A team in the final championship game with a score of 23 to 22. A two-point shot by Genevieve Patton moved the Flames into the lead to make the score 23 to 22 with only eight seconds on the clock.The championship game was preceded by four pool play games with scores of 26-21 against the Stars “A” team; 32-25 against the Impact, 63-4 against the Ravens; 34-8 against the Stars “B” team; and a 26-17 win against the Impact in the semi-final game.The Falcon Flames were determined to win. “Did we come here to take second place?” asked Coach Barry Hicks. “No!” screamed the girls as they were getting ready to go into the championship game.The team’s total record is 21-1 over the last two tournaments and the SoCo league. Thanks to Coaches Barry Hicks and Darryl Murphy’s training, the Falcon Flames are still on their winning streak!
