Fundraising for senior center

Falcon Senior Services, an eastern plains nonprofit serving seniors, celebrated its first anniversary in January and has had such growth that the organization is launching a drive to build a senior center to serve Falcon area residents.A yard sale will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 28 behind Farmer’s State Bank at U.S. Highway 24 and Old Meridian Road. A Classic and Custom Car Show will be held Aug, 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the old Falcon Middle School at U.S. Highway 24 and Meridian Road.A committee of volunteers will begin to plan for the construction of a full-service senior center to open within the next couple of years. “I am so thrilled that there has been such enthusiasm for the programs we are providing and hope to provide more in the future,” said FSS founder and board chairman, Beverly Ordon. “We know it may be a lengthy process, but we have found a lot of support among those 60 and older living in the Falcon area.”Activities are currently held in donated space throughout the community. A senior center building would allow FSS to provide a wider range of services including health screenings, preparation and delivery of hot meals, as well as a place for seniors to gather.
